David Murphy

Hello! David here. I hope this section gives an insight into who I am, the route I have taken with filmmaking, and why I love it.

I began making short comedy sketches with my friends while I was in college in Cork in 2016. We treated them like short films, putting as much effort into how professional they looked and sounded as we did the comedy. It was the perfect way for me to learn how to use a camera. It was fun, and the quick turnover of projects meant I was putting what I was learning from mistakes immediately back into practice.

Over the next few years I got involved in sports videography, music videos, and promo work for businesses local to Cork and Kerry.

In 2022, I started this business properly. From 2022 to 2025 the business was under the name ‘David Murphy Film’. At around that time, I began working regularly with comedian Bernard Casey. We made comedy sketches together, and this is where I started filming stand-up comedy. I now continue to work with Bernard, as well as other comedians including Deirdre O’Kane, Chris Kent, and Dara O’Briain.

The sports side of my work has gone from strength to strength. In 2022, I did some volunteer video work with Cork City FC. I now take charge of the team operating the cameras for match broadcasts, with games airing on League of Ireland TV, Virgin Media, and Premier Sports.

I have also created content for other sports such as Lacrosse, Golf, American Football, and the Tag Rugby World Cup.

I have continued, and will always continue to work on my own passion projects. The type of thing I enjoy creating can vary greatly. I still make comedy sketches. I love brining my camera to new countries. I enjoy making documentaries. And I’m no stranger to a random video essay from time to time.

In 2025, I rebranded to Shot Wise Productions. I desired a brand that represented the level of production value and professionalism I can offer, while making efforts to maintain the personal touch that I believe I get hired for.

Lastly, I want to say that I really value working relationships. One aspect of this job that I struggled with at the beginning, and still do to an extent, is how isolating it can feel by comparison to a job where I see the same colleagues every day. It’s the one thing that makes me doubt whether this career suits me. So, when I get the opportunity to develop a working relationship with a client, or even other creatives who I collaborate with, it makes me sure I’m doing the right thing. When you work with me, you work with someone who is on your side.
